Salam sejahtera,
Selamat datang ke Bandaraya Melaka Bersejarah, salah satu daripada dua bandar raya Malaysia yang diwartakan sebagai Bandar Raya Warisan Dunia oleh Pertubuhaan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu bagi Pendidikan, Sains dan Kebudayaan (UNESCO) pada tahun 2008. Salah satu tarikan utama di bandar raya berusia lebih 750 tahun ini ialah beca.
Sementara perkhidmatan beca semakin pupus di beberapa bandar di Malaysia seperti Muar, Kuala Terengganu dan Pulau Pinang, perkhidmatan beca Melaka pula adalah sebaliknya. Saya sempat mencuba perkhidmatan beca Melaka bersama-sama ibu, adik lelaki serta adik ipar saya, dan saya dapati masih ramai di kalangan generasi pelapis yang sudi meneruskan perjuangan pengusaha-pengusaha beca yang lebih berusia bagi memartabatkan beca Melaka.

Walaupun secara amnya pengusaha-pengusaha beca Melaka selalunya dapat beroperasi dengan selamat berikutan laluan yang digunakan di Jalan Merdeka dekat bangunan Stadhuy's mempunyai had laju serendah 50 km/j, ditambah pula dengan laluan Jalan Kota yang ditutup untuk semua kenderaan bermotor, mereka tetap berisiko. Ia berikutan Jalan Merdeka yang sempit itu turut dikongsi dengan kenderaan bermotor. Jika tidak berhati-hati, maka tragedi yang tidak diingini boleh berlaku dan seterusnya mencalarkan imej Melaka sebagai destinasi pelancongan.
Oleh itu, saya ingin mencadangkan kepada kerajaan negeri Melaka serta JKR Melaka untuk menandakan laluan beca dengan garisan kuning (sebagaimana lorong bas) serta mendirikan papan tanda amaran berkongsi laluan dengan beca supaya pemandu lebih berhati-hati semasa melalui Jalan Merdeka.
Apa pun, saya amat berterima kasih atas layanan mesra dua pengusaha beca sepanjang saya berada di Melaka petang tadi. Saya amat menghargai layanan mesra mereka, semoga industri pengangkutan beca Melaka dapat terus dimartabatkan seantero dunia.

Welcome to Malacca the Historic City, one of the two Malaysian city being gazetted as World Heritage Cities by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 2008. One of the major attractions in the 750-year-old city is the trishaw.
While the trishaw services in certain town and cities in Malaysia such as Muar, Kuala Terengganu and Pulau Pinang are at the brink of extinction, the opposite happens in Malaccan trishaw service. I had tried the Malaccan trishaw service together with my mother, little brother and little sister-in-law, and I found out that there were still many younger-generation trishaw operators joined forces with their senior counterparts for their struggle for the prestige of Malaccan trishaw industry.
Though generally Malaccan trishaw operators are able to operate safely thanks to the speed limit at Jalan Merdeka near the Stadhuy's building to be as low as 50 km/h, in addition with Jalan Kota which is off-limits to all motor vehicles, they are still at risk. It is because the narrow Jalan Merdeka is also shared with motor vehicles. If they are not careful, it will cause an unwanted tragedy that will tarnish Malacca's image as a tourism destination.
Therefore, I would like to suggest to the state government of Melaka and JKR Melaka to mark segregated trishaw routes with yellow lines (similar to bus lanes) as well as to erect signboards warning road users sharing the route with trishaws so that they will drive extra careful when proceeding along Jalan Merdeka.
Anyway, I would like to thank the two trishaw operators for their excellent and friendly service when I was in Malacca City this afternoon. I greatly appreciate their friendly service, and I pray that Malaccan trishaw transportation industry will always be prestigious and world-famous.
