Kenyataan Media: Keselamatan Cerun Di Seluruh Negara / Media Statement: Nationwide Slope Safety

Kementerian Kerja Raya mengeluarkan kenyataan seperti berikut:-

The Ministry of Works had issued the statement as following:-

  1. As the monsoon season is around the corner and continuous rain from the beginning of this month and is expected to continue until early next year, the Ministry of Works would like to remind the public especially road users and residents in highland areas that the risks of landslides are higher than normal days.
  2. The Slope Division of the Public Wokrs Department had urged affected State Departments including District Offices and highway concessionaires to become more proactive and to monitor slope conditions under their maintenance full-time to avoid unwanted consequences such as what had happened at Hulu Langat not long ago.
  3. The Ministry also had advised the public to report to the authorities immediately if there is any sign of possible landslides and to take immediate preventive measures by evacuating from their homes at once.
  4. The Ministry of Works will issue a guide of signs of landslides through mass media shortly as a guide to avoid unwanted casualties.
  5. However, the public may take early preventive measures by checking and to take note of the following:
  • Clean the drains on or beside hill slopes, and if there is some stagnent water inside, the water must be rerouted to existing drains.
  • Make sure that the drains are in good condition and not blocked (with trees and rubbish), and if the drains are made of concrete, make sure that the drains are not broken.
  • Monitor any early signs of slope failures such as cracks on road pavement and retaining wall. The the electricity posts and trees beside the hill are leaning, it is also an early sign of landslide possibility.

For further information, please call the Slope Engineering Branch at 03-26967331 or the nearest State JKR, District Office and Municipal Council offices.
