Salam sejahtera,
Hi everyone,
For the first time ever, Malaysian Highway Blog has conducted an exclusive review regarding Malaysian highways. As a beginning, I made the Kuala Lumpur section of the Federal Route 2 as the starting point.
One thing that I hate about roads in Kuala Lumpur is the fact that its signboards never honour federal roads. The majority of signboards in Kuala Lumpur never show any federal route code except expressway codes. It troubles road users who heavily rely on route code usage to plan their journey, especially among tourists. Ironically, Kuala Lumpur is the Malaysian federal capital; therefore, Kuala Lumpur is supposed to be a champion in honouring the federal highways. More embarrassing, other states including the neighbouring state Selangor are capable in honouring federal highways a lot better. Due to the failure of showing route signs in signboards, a missing link of the Federal Route 2 between the Federal Highway / Jalan Syed Putra with the Karak Expressway.

The Federal Route 2 or FT2 was gazetted on 19 October 1989 as the longest east-west highway in Peninsular Malaysia with the total length of 276.90 km. It connects between Port Klang with Kuala Lumpur and then to Port Tanjung Gelang, Kuantan.
If in Pahang, FT2 is known as the Kuala Lumpur-Kuantan old trunk road (including the Karak Expressway E8), while in the Klang Valley the FT2 refers to the Federal Highway FT2. After reaching Kuala Lumpur, where else does the FT2 go? Malaysian Highway Blog is going to reveal the "secret" route of FT2 in Kuala Lumpur. The FT2 tracking works was done in the evening of 13 November 2011, starting from Kerinchi Interchange at Federal Highway, with the help of my girlfriend. Then we stopped at Jalan Syed Putra to start taking pics.

Next, from Jalan Syed Putra we turned left to enter Jalan Damansara / Mahameru Highway at National Palace Interchange. We stopped again at Parliament Interchange to take more pics.

Once approaching the PWTC, Mahameru Highway continues as Jalan Tun Razak. We entered the Pahang Roundabout instead of going straight ahead.
For your information, the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 1 project (including Jalan Tun Razak and Mahameru Highway) is also known as Kuala Lumpur-Petaling Jaya Traffic Dispersal Scheme because previously the traffic from Jalan Pahang needed to enter the city centre, passing narrow streets before arriving at Jalan Syed Putra. That is why there are two direct ramps at Pahang Roundabout from Jalan Gombak direction to Mahameru Highway and vice-versa.

From Pahang Roundabout, we continued our journey to Setapak Interchange where the old Kuala Lumpur-Bentong and Kuantan trunk road known as Jalan Gombak FT68. Route FT2 overlaps momentarily at Jalan Gombak until Jalan Kampung Bandar Dalam intersection.
Jalan Kampung Bandar Dalam is definitely narrow with only two lanes, so nobody would expect that this road is actually a part of Route FT2, as the former Karak Expressway originally started from Kampung Bandar Dalam near Sentul.
Once we reached the Kampung Bandar Dalam Interchange at Duke Expressway E33, we turned right towards Batu Caves and Kuantan.

The Duke Expressway section between Kampung Bandar Dalam Interchange to Greenwood Interchange was originally a part of the former Karak Expressway that was not taken by MTD Prime when Karak Expressway was upgraded to a full 6-lane access-controlled expressway. Meanwhile, the section from Greenwood Interchange to Gombak North Interchange was taken by JKR for the Kuala Lumpur Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2). Only after starting from Gombak North Interchange about 1 km from Gombak Toll Plaza that the Karak Expressway FT2 was upgraded by MTD Prime as the E8.
The night view of Karak Expressway is a definite beauty thanks to the LED street lights along the expressway. It increases visibility and safety along the expressway which was formerly dark and quiet at night.

Our journey ended at Karak Expressway. To tell the truth, we did not enter the expressway but we took the entry ramp to International Islamic University of Malaysia (UIAM) to take photos of Karak Expressway before turning back. Once everything had been settled, I had to bring my girlfriend back after she helped me with interesting shots to be shared with all of you. Thank you very much sweetheart!
